Size: 1-1/2" x 2-3/4" Condition: Good, has been used. I do not know what the metal is, I found NO silver markings anyw The side does have wear, but not rust. The inside edge reads "PAT. Appl'd For" . The background of the 2 sides has a "pink" hue to it, but that must be worn off too. The raised embossed areas of the eagle and of the woman are both in good shape. This is an old match holder. It has an eagle with its wings spread on one side and the emblem over its head and foot of "FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES". On the other side is a woman holding what looks like a flower. I found the history of this organization to be interesting, so I have enclosed that for your reading pleasure also. Fraternal Order of Eagles International ( F.O.E. ) is a fraternal organization that was founded on February 6 , 1898 , in Seattle, Washington by a group of six theater owners including John Cort (the first president), brothers John W. and Tim J. Considine, Harry (H.L.) Leavitt (who later joined the Loyal Order of Moose ), Mose Goldsmith and Arthur Williams. [1] Originally made up of those engaged in one way or another in the performing arts , the Eagles grew and claimed credit for establishing the Mother's Day holiday in the United States as well as the "impetus for Social Security ". Their lodges are known as "aeries". Please email w/any questions. read more
