KO HAGI FLAT TEA BOWL / "Flying Clouds" Authentic Ko Hagi ( Old Hagi ware : http://www.aisf.or.jp/~jaanus/deta/h/hagiyaki.htm ), Kiri-kodai ( Cutting stand ) Hirajawan ( Flat tea bowl ), called "Hiun" ( Flying clouds ), with a signed wooden box (as "Tea bowl, Name; Hiun" and a brand of "Hongan temple" ( /wiki/Hongan-ji )), from Edo period, circa mid 18th century or earlier. --- * Size : about D 5.28 x H 2.2 in (13.2 x 5.5 cm) This is the one of the rarest collectable limited masterpieces of genuine Ko Hagi kiri-kodai hirajawan, which was succeeded among tea masters from generation to generation even if you also understand by checking the pictures and comparing with the other similar pieces. This professional-use bowl is 'imperfectly' completed by characteristic glossy hagi milky glaze with marvelous yohen ( coincidental chemical reaction in kiln ), and a part of edge is intentionally bended as it might be the expressive factor of its given name, Flying clouds. And, it is clearly felt that the style of this bowl is faithfully based on old Korean pottery as the basic type of genuine early-made Hagi bowl because of it tasteful bottom part, including kiri-kodai and its comfotable thinness.
