Outstanding Hand Crafted Polychrome Hopi Coiled Native American Basketry Kachina design Plaque, Shalako Maiden ( Salak Mana ), Created from Gatd and Dyed Native American Plants Circa 1930 - 1960 13 inches in diameter by x 1 1/4 inch deep Condition; Near Mint, T is a slight fade on the front, otherwise no problems. Description: This is one of the nicest old Hopi coiled plaques that I have offered. The condition and design are superb. The weave is extra fine and hard with about 16 stitches to the inch. The little extras such as the imbrications on the headband, brow and feet are real pluses that indicate the competence and imagination of the weaver. Most baskets of this type come from Second Mesa on the Hopi reservation in northern Arizona . This basket is from an Albuquerque , New Mexico collection.
