This is an OLDER IMPERIAL Snow ~ Emerald Cameo Peking Glass Vase. Cased glass is a very unique technique developed in China during the Kangxi Period. The technique was developed to multi-color and then to the refined technique as seen in the late 1800's. The quality of this vase speaks for itself and can be compared to other auctions. Notice the extremely fine overlay and the fine intertwining glass carving!! Extremely fine clean clear cut edges. Fabulous fine details!! Note the clarity of the glass!! This is not an apprentice or a young artists in some make-it-fast factory ~ this the old Master jade carvers of Imperial. This absolutely exquisite art vase is Cased glass also known as overlay or cameo glass. The vases are older and were done in the old way. The Snow glass is dipped in emerald liquid glass over and over to achieve the highest depth. Then the Masters carve down the overlayed glass to the extremely fine cameo carving shown in this vase. This vase is priceless in the art of the finest Masters. Notice the fine variegated greens down to the white snow glass lending details to the smallest leaves, the butterfly, the flowers, and stems. The beautifully carved neck adds a priceless finish. T he Old Master Jade carvers were employed to do the meticulous carving on the true collectible Peking cased glass. The Chinese call the base of this jar "snow" glass because of its wonderful opaque and snow appearance. The snow glass is wonderfully white. This is old snow glass...not the newer just white glass found today. Fabulous glassy surface - a perfect vase. Chinese handmade glass is roughly referred to as " Peking " glass in general. This particular vase is Imperial Peking Glass and belonged exclusively to Beijing Government Import and Export. This vase had a price tag of over $400 from 20 years ago. Tag will be with the vase. The age of this vase dates back to the 1940's. The box is what is called museum box used for European Expos and is included in the cost of shipping. Old boxes are heavy! It is a part of inventory owned by a representative of Beijing Government Arts & Antiques - Import & Export. The vase was part of China's European expos from 1972 till late 1980's and was shipped from Europe to the US. This month, I shipped 100 vases back to Beijing for the Summer Olympics...if this was not top quality....why would China want it back? The vases will be used for the coming 2008 Olympic games...with prices starting at over $700 US. The price of this vase is at a very special reserve. The vase is in mint condition and has never been used. The pictures are not the best, but the buyer can just expect much better!! I noticed I did not do a great job of cleaning. The stand is open carved wood and comes with the auction. The vase measures 9-1/2" high and approx. 5-5/8" in diameter without stand. The Vase comes with open carved aftermarket stand which adds another 1-1/4". This truly a very collectible & priceless art glass! Buyer pays $11.85 shipping and insurance via Fed Ex in US 48 states.
