is an old pelican ivory netsuke, for you to bid on. It has nice detail and lovely patina (slightly darker on the underside and back side). I am still very new to the collecting of netsuke and am learning more everyday, so I'll try to give you the best information that I have about it but STRONGLY encourage those of you who are more experienced in collecting to view the pictures closely and decide for yourselves. T are a couple of indicators (the depth of patina, the size of the holes) that indicate that while it is older and NOT a "modern fake," it is likely not an extremely old piece either (more likely from the 1920's or 40's... I was also told when I purchased it from an experienced antiques dealer, that it was assumed to be from that time). Although it is signed, I don't know enough about signatures and have been told that it can have been signed by students or any of a long line of people in a particular school and so, is not always an indication of the maker or value. It does have a couple of very fine crack lines to the ivory (typical for older ivory and visible in the front side view and top of his head) but has no breaks or repairs and has nice detail on all surfaces of the piece.
