We are still in the process downsizing our collection of Japanese woodblock prints & the best are the last to go (we ran out of room!). We are offering a fine wood block print entitled Wild Geese & Full Moon By Bairei Kono. Bairei Kono, 1844-1895, was born and active in Kyoto, the old imperial town. He studied Japanese style painting with Nakajima Raisho and Shiokawa Bunrin. In 1881 he opened his own art school. Takeuchi Seiho became one of his students. The emphasis of Bairei Kono's artwork was on kacho-e, images of birds and flowers. In 1893 he was honored by becoming a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Household. I removed it from its frame (deserves better) & the condition & color appear quite good (No tears, foxing, or fading). The image size is 8" X 10" & it is tipped to a sheet of cardboard on the two upper corners. It has good bleed through on the back. I am not an expert of Japanese prints so you be the judge. I put it back in the frame for shipping & the matt is signed in pencil (By the artist????). We purchased this old oriental print many years back (we are not experts) so we have no Idea what this rare glimpse into Japanese history is worth, so we will start low with no reserve. Good luck!
