Up for auction is a pair of vintage sterling silver and marcasite earrings for pierced ears. These 'black diamond' pieces are probably 50 years old or better. They have an Art Deco-ish look to me even though they are not of the period...the design is balanced and a linear line with soft fluted edging is incorporated within the tear shaped drops - very pretty. They are of cast work silver and handbuilt silver segments and self hinged right after the post area...so nice movement to them when worn. The elongated post front is set with 5 tiny marcasites and the tear shaped dangle has several (29) stones each. The earrings measure about 2 1/4" long x the widest portion on the drop is 7/16" just shy of 1/2" with a combined weight of 8+g on a digital scale prior to packing...so not heavy, heavy yet with enough weight you will know that you have them on. The backsides are impressed: 925 on the bottom elliptical shaped portion and each of the backs (original to the earrings) are marked on one of the looped wing backs: 925. Please see photos for color, shape, design and condition. They are in very nice and wearable vintage condition as is, uncleaned, with a near black patina - gorgeous and without problems. T is a 'matching' ring, size 8, running in a concurrent auction that you may wish to preview. If you click other items and scroll down, read more
