This Antique Victorian era Meriden figural Hunting Motif covered Urn/Vase is fabulous, a museum quality piece and dates from the 1880 period. The figural dog which looks like a Pointer has large crossed Antique rifles (two on each side) and the lid has a Quail or Partridge perched on top. The pictures sure don't do it justice as it is much more handsome in person..Hard because of the glare.. It stands a whopping 23 inches in height and 9 3/4 inches across the base..The silverplate base is marked Made And Guaranteed By Meriden B&Company with the etched Weigh scales in the shield mark and the # 0137 underneath. The interior is Gilt lined and the black base is wood with a silver interior ring in which the urn fits in snuggly...It is in excellent condition with no damage or repair and has not been resilvered. The dog is solidly mounted with no movment as well as the Quail on the lid. T is only one spot of wear on the side of the urn that has the Victorian Eastlake style etched design with fans, fern leaves, flowers and large winged bugs..The spot may come off with silver polish?? but may be a wear mark.. The black wooden base has some shipping around the lower rim which could easily be touched up with Black touch up paint but will leave that up to the buyer. The Quail has fine legs and one must be careful removing the lid as it is quite fragile. I will wrap with a ton of bubble and turn the lid upside down into the urn to avoid any shipping damage to it.
