This is an old wooden treenware (treen) miniature canoe paddle. It measures 18" long and 2" across the paddle end and a little over an inch on the handle end. What makes this piece special is that the Indian Chief is not a decal, it is hand carved and t are hand carved decorations going down the handle on on it's end. I have seen these with decal decoration but not with this type of carved decoration. At first I thought it may be pyrography which was a popular wood decorating technique around the turn of the century (19th to 20th). I think it may have been a souvenir piece or possibly made by Native Americans for the tourist trade. I am not sure what type of wood this is. I can tell you that it is a light weight wood, maybe poplar.
