This tile may also be a walter crane design, but I cannot be sure. The heading is in French and it says - Sur Le Pont d Avignon! It was purchased with the other three tiles listed previously. This tile will compliment an arts & crafts tradition home or a home with aesthetic period decor. Please check my other listings for 3 similar tiles.
I have had (IN THE PAST) tiles identical to or similar to the tiles I currently have listed, but they were manufactured by Mosaic, Wheeling, or American Encaustic. These tiles are different in the sense that the colors are much richer and the surface has a matte finish rather than the typical glossy finish. They are not hand painted, but rather some sort of screen type printing with an under glaze. The backs of the tiles have a grid pattern similar to Minton, but I must emphasize that the tiles are unmarked on the back and do not have the Walter Crane logo on the front. So I will leave it up to you to take an educated guess as to whom you might attribute as the manufacturer. This tile measures 6 inches square and 3/8 thick. It is in very good condition, however, someone has taken a magic marker and painted the perimeter of the tile including the sides with the marker. I suspect this was done to hide a couple of nibbles on the perimeter, but I think it could be removed if you find it offensive. Please feel free to ask questions or request more details. Check my impeccable feedback. Thank you and good luck on your BiD.
