This auction is for an awesome old REAL & ORIGINAL, but Obsolete, U.S. CUSTOMS INSPECTOR BADGE - #5 - from the PORT OF SAN FRANCISCO. This comes from an estate we bought over 20 years ago.....one of the 3 elderly sisters had once been married and worked as a Customs Inspector for the Port of San Francisco with her husband. I believe this badge was hers and that it dates from somew between 1935 and 1960. (I will also be listing her husbands badge, #1, tonight as well as another badge of his from the US Coast Guard.) This badge is brass with a red, white and blue enamel trimmed center and is marked on the back "Artistic M & B Co. 75 Nassau St. NY".(See mark in close up picture at the bottom of this write up.) The brass patina is untouched....no attempt to clean this badge was made and it is in as found condition. This is a FULL-SIZE badge measuring 2 1/2" tall by 1 7/8" wide, in VERY GOOD condition as you can see in the picture.....a little bit of missing blue enamel in the circle and on the edge of the shield, but the pin clasp closes securely and works fine. This is a RARE and UNUSUAL item that would be a super piece to add to any collection.
