7" x 10" Photo album from a former student of Shenandoah College/University, Dayton VA 1934-1936. Esther Cooper Moore took many interesting photos of school activities and her friends. She was a Maypole Dancer on Mayday. She was a member of the "Blacks Cats" which was either a singing group or a club. She was on the "Queens Court" at homecoming. T is a picture of her participating in the "Black Mammy Dance" in 1935, complete with black-face and costume. Snaps of the college buildings and the Dayton Mill, Old Dorm...the list goes on and on. Nearly 100 B&W photos and nearly every one labelled. My personal favorite is the "Flame Dance" because they all look so graceful in their costumes. The United States was almost a century old and the Civil War had ended just 10 years earlier when the institution that was to become Shenandoah University was founded in 1875, in Dayton, Virginia. In 1960, the school moved to Winchester, Virginia. On a personal note, I have no ties to Esther C, Moore or the people in the photos. I acquired many of her personal belongings by way of an estate auction and was filled with great sadness that these items were not kept by her family. They obviously were cherished by her. I have no real reason to keep them, but at the same time am having trouble parting with them. I would be thrilled to find someone out t who would really appreciate them. Buyer pays shipping of $5.50.
