Most of her pieces are in fine galleries selling for several hundreds of dollars (for small pieces) into the thousands of dollars for the larger elaborate jars. This is an early piece created by the famous Rose Gonzales of San Ildefonso and Santa Clara. She was very well known and much has been written about her. Her jars are documented in many books and museum collections. She worked with blackware and redware alike and created stunning Pueblo designs. This blackware jar is beautifully formed with a wide and low bulbous body and exhibits a superb full avanyu (water serpent) that encircles the entire jar. Beautifully and deeply carved with very fine lines. The polished blackware slip is located on the relief areas against a buffed slip on the recessed areas. The interior of the jar is buffed and so is the bottom of the jar. Clearly signed on the base with the documented *ROSE* signature. T is a very old piece of masking tape still on the bottom of the jar, though about ready to come off we have left it alone. This tape shows great age and that it has been on this pot for decades. Jar is a beautiful early example and a larger size, circumference 'around the jars body' is 28" x 3 1/4" tall x 8 3/4" in diameter across the top, mouth opening is 7" and the the jar weighs almost 2 1/2 lbs. T are NO cracks or hairlines. T are noted surface scratches, some scuffs and t, some oxidation on the bottom, and a few tiny surface sliver chips on the bottom of the jar from being moved around over the years, all is shown for your examination. The wear is associated with age and handling. We have photographed every angle possible and show the jar with a Morgan silver dollar (not included) only to show the size of this jar. Being offered far below value, in 'as found' condition. We have sold many of our items to very prominent galleries in New England and across America, not to mention all over the world. We have many repeat customers. Bid your maximum now and don't miss out because you forgot to check the auction, or the site was down or the Internet was slow.
