This Senufo ceremonial drum from the Ivory Coast was obtained from Tucker Robbins Gallery in NYC in 1998. The drum was listed as being from the 1800s. See for more information about the credibility of the source, i make no claims as to the authenticity of the date given. However, the wood has an incredibly rich patina which suggests that it may indeed be well over 100 years old.The dimensions of the drum: 39" in height, head diameter is 9 1/2".The skin of the drum is completely intact, no holes or tears, and obviously original, due to its dried condition and coloration,The pegs that hold the skin in place are almost all still intact: 13 in total, several are broken but still present.T are many spirit animals carved in relief around the body of the drum: turtles, antelope, snake, and many others, as can be seen in the photos. (The colors are NOT accurate in my photos, i am an amateur photographer and the dense and subtle variations in color are very hard to capture - the drum is much more impressive to the eye than portrayed One of the four pedestal legs is broken and missing, as can be seen in the photos - the drum still stands on its own. Please feel free to ask questions, i am no expert on antiques or African art, but will do my best to answer. Thanks for looking.
