This is one of two Chinese Paintings on Silk that I am offering right now, along with a few other neat items. Please check them all out. I have had these for about twenty years, and recall being told that they were turn of the century pieces...so I am guessing early 20th century. Maybe someone could help with the translation and artist name? Rife with symbolism and 'good' luck...a funky monkey, peach, peasant, pomegranate..... is a little Chinese lore for you: POMEGRANATE - Symbolizes fertility and, being full of seeds, numerous male progeny. PEACH - The peach is also known as the "fairy fruit." It was the peach that gave immortality to the Immortals and was the elixir of life to the Daoists. It is also a symbol for marriage, spring and immortality. The peach tree of the Gods was said to blossom once every 3000 years and the fruit of eternal life took another 3000 years to ripen. MONKEY - The monkey drives away evil spirits. The monkey is often seen holding a peach , which it stole from the garden of Xi-wang-mu. This piece measures about 8.2" x 10.4" unframed and about 12.5" x 15.5" framed in a shadowbox. These silken paintings are pinned to the backing of the shadowbox ( I did this to protect them ). Now the other painitng I have on auction right now was purchased at the same time as this one, but I am not sure if they are the same artist.....I am working on figuring that ourt right now. But, I know this about the OTHER painting from my nephew (who happens to live and work in China). is what he translated (and remember, this is information about the OTHER painting on auction right now.: Stolen Fruit at the Jade Pond Made in January of one of these years, 1808, 1868, 1928 or 1988 (Chinese years run in cycles of 60). Artist: Jin Renyin T may be another transliteration of the name, like Chin Jenyin or Chin Jen Yin or Jin Ren Yin. > The Jade Pond is a place in the most famous of the four classic > Chinese novels, Journey to the West. This must depict a scene from > the story. >Thank you Aaron!!!!!
