Up for auction is a beautiful Old Sleepy Eye bowl made around 1903 by the Weir Company for the Sleepy Eye Milling Company of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. One of four items made at that time. This bowl is in very good condition for its age from the 1903-1914 range. Shows normal wear around rim and base. Has the Flemish blue and gray coloring typical of these pieces. The blue in fantastic. The embossing of Old Sleepy Eye and the scroll on back are very nice. Imprinted under the Indian (faintly) is "Old Sleepy Eye". Looks to be a letter imprinted on bottom, but I can't make it out. The interior of this bowl is flawless. The condition and quality of the bowl is great. T is a small crease on the top rim, which looks to be part of the making process. T is a very faint vertical hairline crack to the left of the Indian, which cannot be felt with the finger. Very small chip on base under scroll. Old Sleepy Eye became the advertising trademark for The Sleepy Eye Milling Co., established in 1883 at Sleepy Eye, Minn., some 28 years after the chief's death. This bowl is very heavy and solid. Weighs approximately 3 pounds. The diameter is 6 3/8 inches, and stands 4 inches in height. PayPal is preferred. Item covered by insurance if using PayPal.
