This is a large, highly decorative, pottery bowl that I believe had its origins in the southwest United States . The bowl is unmarked and is about 12" in diameter with a 9-1/2" opening. It has a rounded bottom (photo 1) and stands about 4-1/2" tall. The painted surface inside the bowl is highly decorative with bold graphics in black, reddish brown, and mottled dark brown (photo 2). The bowl also has bold painted graphics around the outside edge done in black (photos 4 & 5). It appears that the bowl was decorated after firing. It has a few chips on the rim (photo 3), and the glaze is rubbed off in spots. However, keeping in mind the pot's probable age these use marks/flaws would be appropriate. It weighs nearly 5 pounds, so is quite hefty. The bowl could use a good cleaning, but I'm leaving that to its new owner. I don't know anything about its provenance, but it could possibly date back to the early 1900s based on the other items in the previous owner's collection. I am happy to answer any questions.
