WELCOME TO OUR AUCTIONS ! For your consideration is this wonderful old primitive large egg gathering basket that is made of splint oak . This basket has been well taken care of and not been allowed to be abused in any way. It does need a good cleaning for has been stored away safely but even though carefully covered still has gotten some dirt and lint on it. I would rather leave that up to the professionals of basket care than perhaps myself for you will know more about how to protect and care for it while washing than I would if I attempted it. Enough said on this subject.... This basket is near if not mint. Mint in that it is not shabby , no broken pieces or cracks / tears in the weaves anyw but simply a super old basket. Age darkened in the greatest old patina ever, great craftmanship and detail... surely one of a kind find . One of the best basket finds that you will likely run into in a lifetime..... This was one from my late mothers old collection of early baskets, have soooooo many of these that I will be listing in the next few days. She loved her baskets! Unfortunately , I cannot keep all of them as much as I would love to so passing them on to you to enjoy. Hope you can get as much enjoyment out of them as she did. Old basket is a great example of ones yet to come. This particular one , she used as well as displayed. Remember her gathering eggs from the old hen house with this one and a smaller one just like this one that had belonged to my grandmother, but much smaller. Sometimes , I got to carry the little one into the house for her. She would put one or two eggs in mine....gee, did I ever think I was hot stuff!! Measures 10 inches long, 10 inches across, almost 12 inches tall with woodenstave ( I believe that is what it is called) handle. Basket part itself is 7 inches deep. Does have curved , not totally flat bottom but is not a buttocks type basket . I do have some of the baskets with the buttock bottoms to be listed later but this one is not.... Good strong durable basket with lots of age still left to it.....perfect for displaying with pride . Bid with confidence on this, no basket buyers remorse whatsoever!
