Old Time Shop keepers Antique Victorian Store Door Bell
This item will ship for $10.95 to all 50 states! I am also listing this week a door bell bracket part for a carriage.
By the looks and condition of the spring and the hand made nail or post I would guess this bell would date into at least 1850.
This super old time shop keepers door bell is in excellent condition. The hand wrought post or nail is nice and free and allows the bell to easily swing. T is no way anyone would mistake this bell for a new repro. The bell has a nice old time texture to its surface that is unlike a new smooth, shiney bell.
The Brass Bell is 2 7/8" in diameter and 2 1/2" tall. The whole bell with the spring that sticks out the top it is 9 1/2 " tall and the spring is 5 1/2 " wide and over the nail it is 5" deep.
This would look great on a door of your restoration project. A bell like this hangs on the inside of a store front or shop and it rings when the door is opened or slams shut. The bell rings when the ball striker inside shakes back and forth and it gives a nice crisp, clear ring.
I polished the brass bell and if you want it to stay that shiney you would have to polish it or add some laquer finish.. I left the inside of the bell as it was to show its age and vintage origins. The great vintage verdigris green inside and the rust on the bell striker shows the age of the bell.
The color of the bell is gold or yellow and the brass has a great aged texture to it.The bell is not cracked and t are very fine texture that you should expect for a bell this old. The brass bell has a nice texture from the sand casting process and the bell has a #3 on the top, likely the casting size of the bell. 9/07
