OLD LENINABAD SUZANI I would like to present to you the most impressing part of large Tadjik handmade embroideries - Suzani. This name of exquisite silk embroideries comes from Persian "sozan" which means "a needle". Uzbek Silk Handmade Suzanis give us an opportunity to have an insight into the old culture and traditions of this land. Such works of Art were prepared and used for ceremonial functions like wedding doweries, fittings for horsemen and their horses, and the general embellishment of reception rooms. As soon as a daughter was born in family, the mother would start to make suzanis for her dowry, and later her daughter, too, would join her in this fine art. The patterns of suzanis are an expression of women's mood and fantasies; and not only that...Most of all, Suzanis are the last exponents of an age-old tradition which draw our attention by its mysteriousness and beauty. This is an old silk handmade embroidery from Leninabad, Tadjikistan. The age of the item is the first part of the 20th century. The foundation of embroidery is calico fabric of black color. This item has a very nice Traditional Tadjik Design. The pattern of the embroidery is composed of beautiful floral roundels and large beautiful blossoms.
