This item very recently came out of a barn w several original Civil War items were found. Unfortunately I was unable to get any of the uniforms or swords but this item was overlooked and I was able to obtain it. It definately looks military and it is what I believe to be some kind of cannon ram rod possibly for a Confederate mortar. The reason I say Confederate is because the cap is iron and not brass and somewhat crude. It's also the size you would expect for a Confederate mortar. The large end is a 5" diameter and 10" long. It's made of stacked layers of hard, heavy wood. Some bark in layers showing crudeness and age of item. Total length is 36". Has a hand painted number near cap. T are "splotches" of paint hear and t from hanging around in a barn for decades. Really neet looking piece that I'm sure would be a great addition to an Artillery display. I cant guarentee exactly what it's use was but it's clearly very old and original. TERMS: 5 day, NO RESERVE!!!! Continental USA bidders ONLY please! High bidder includes a flat rate of $17 for shipping/handling. Thanks for looking and good luck!
