We are selling a vintage finely hand carved and wonderfully painted Pinocchio marionette. The piece stands 15" high and weighs nearly a pound. The wood is a dense hardwood which appears to be oak. The strings are an older braided dacron type and the limbs are each jointed in two locations with old style nails. The paint is original and all nine color shades are consistent with popular colors of the mid 1900's. Perhaps the most unique feature is the articulated head which rotates about twenty five degrees. This is very cleverly achieved by an irregularly shaped ball (body) and socket (head) design. The condition is original and excellent. All body parts are very well proportioned and move freely and easily. The facial features are outstanding. I chose to list this item under the category of Folk Art because the quality and workmanship of Pinocchio are as good or better than art carvings that I have sold in the past. No reserve.
