This auction is for : A Fine Classic Museum Quality Baule Chief/Figure in near perfect condition. Wonderful carving to face and body, coif and serine facial expression, long fingers, protruding navel, raised sacrafication marks. This carving is made from heavy, hard African wood and shows good age with encrusted dark blackish patina/color. Very fine aged cracks, and may have tiny chip or so. Please use the close-up photo to see details. This stunning African Baule sculpture is a Beautiful example of Baule tribal artistry and wonderful size. Mesurements : 25" tall, 5 1/2" wide and 5" deep. One thing I really enjoy about this figure is the face; Note the Excellent Treatment to the eyes, it is wonderful in my opinion. I also enjoy the unique placement of the hands on this figure. This male statue represents an honorable ancestor, with strong facial expression, a king holding his beard with one hand in sign of wisdom and hand resting on knee as a sign of his undivided attention. Condition : Remarkably Good for its age. Please ask all question before bidding, for this is a final sale auction. Est. Age : Early 20th Century.
