One Of A Kind NASA - Used Cray Research Computer Room Sign X-MP / 48 auc #27Here is something you will not see again. This sign hung above the Cray XMP 48 Supercomputer at NASA Ames Research Center. The sign reads Cray X-MP / 48. This is a piece of supercomputing and NASA History.The sign is plastic on an extruded aluminum frame. The letters appear to be applied. The overall color is brown with white printing. It measures about 9x28 inches.(Any measuring devices shown in pictures are not included in this sale - they are there are to show scale.)This item was owned by a gentleman who worked at NASA Ames Research Center in Mtn. View Ca. on many of the Cray supercomputers. It may have been given to him upon his retirement from NASA.This auction features an item that was associated with Cray Research supercomputers at NASA Ames. Cray Computers was the preeminent builder of the fastest computers in the world at the time these items were given to or acquired by the former owner. If you google CRAY 2 + NASA Ames you can see a video of another one of the computers that the former owner of this item worked on at NASA.Over the years that he worked in the Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation Laboratory (NAS) he collected various items of the days of early supercomputing.
