The shop which services my Husqvarna sewing machine is also a top-notch wool store and so every time I go to get sewing supplies I fall in love with something they have knit and buy 2 balls of yarn. This yarn is absolutely fabulous - a feast to the eyes AND to the touch. It is a nubby yard with raggedy fuzzy almost denim-like lumps which then turn into the softest silky thread - the yarn name is Modena and it is 50% cotton, 40% rayon and 10 % nylon - and made in Italy. This panel of the knit yarn was backed in ultra-sturdy corduroy in brown and then combined with the same corduroy, stone washed denim and a calico in the same blues and browns. I also used a heart calico in blues on the handle and a wonderful blue and ecru stripe on the drawstring channel.The knit panel forms a double pocket on the exterior which is very handy for stuff you want to access quickly. The inside is lined in a bold and gorgeous vintage brown roses floral which was also used for the drawstring closure. Even the flap is made patchy! There is a giant vintage button (1 1/2 inches wide!) in toffee which closes it up (flap loop). The shoulder straps are adjustable and backed in the calico. The drawstring closure uses industrial metal grommets in front and back - this closure is my own design and gives the bag a beautiful shape when cinched. Also, this bag is very wide so that you can easily see inside to all the interior contents. Since this backpack has no interior pockets - I created a really organized and roomy matching wallet. This way you just reach in for the wallet and everything is there in one place and trust me....everything will fit! There are 2 exterior pockets for shopping lists, pocket calculator and other smaller items. This pocket is made with the calico and stripe, trimmed in satiny-blue vintage binding ribbon and a wonderful old metal button with a chess piece design. A zipper keeps the interior contents safe - inside there are 6 credit card slots (2 of which are extremely roomy) and 3 more pockets on the opposite side for cash, loose change, etc. There is plenty more room for keys, cell phone, check book, pen, lipstick, gum, extra pair of shoes (...ok, not the shoes, ha ha)..This would be a great bag for travel, short trips, for a busy mom who needs her hands free to hold on to other things, tuck the kiddies into a shopping cart, picnics etc. Wash in cold water by hand and air dry flat. Dimensions: 15 3/4 inches tall, 16 1/2 inches wide.
