How often does one find a true queen-sized PERIOD bed? Looking back over the last 20 years, I can remember only one other !!
This is a truly impressive, probably one-of-a-kind bed. It is walnut, with beech, I think, lighter accents, and ebony tops to the octagonal posts. The width allowed for the box spring is 60 inches, which is original. The rails have been lengthened to just over 80 inches (from their original length of 70 inches.) Bed must have been designed and built for short, portly people. Please note: the accompanying photos show the headboard and footboard displayed together without the rails. The rails are massive - 2.25 by 8 inches in cross section. The posts are octagonal, with beech, ebony and walnut from the top down, followed by tulip poplar, and beech trim at the bottom. The original bed bolts which hold the head- and foot-boards together are hand-made. The bolts that secure the rails are not the originals, as they were lost somewhere in the dim past. The structure is solid. And heavy. Overall dimensions are approximately 68 inches wide, 87 inches long, and 53 inches high at the peak of the headboard. The color in the photos is fairly accurate, and the finish is new and excellent. HereÃ,Â's an unusual bed that is ready for another 100 years of good service !! If you are in the Florida - Georgia area, there is a good possibility of delivery either free, or at a reduced rate, as we travel in that area frequently. Please donÃ,Â't hesitate to request additional information or more detailed pictures. Both are readily available. ALSO, please donÃ,Â't fail to check the other items we are offering.
