OneRupee Eight Annas Specimen Banknote A unique specimen of a George V - Government of India 1 Rupee 8 Annas banknote It is, or was in the attached envelope marked ‘Allahabad Bank Limited’ – ‘Lucknow’, with the front of the envelope address to my late father at No.1 Napier Road, Cantonment, Lucknow, along with other banknotes, now also listed This would have been in the late 1920’s or 1930’s, where I can trace that he was living and working in Lucknow; we are from the old Raj and the family was from India and what is now Pakistan for some three generations until the 1960’s when we all came back to England After some detailed research and information gleaned from authoritative sources, it is apparent that there were no notes of 1 Rupee 8 Annas actually issued for circulation, however there are some rare specimens reported and now much sought As one can imagine these are now extremely rare and incredibly valuable, as they form part of a history that is never to be repeated Undoubtedly the value of notes will depend on the condition, so please do look at the detailed photographs I have taken, and if you want more then please ask The history of these notes is also quite interesting as eventually a 2 Rupee 8 Anna note was printed and used in circulation, but these were not popular or in fact practical and they were eventually withdrawn read more
