The design has remained unchanged. This is the same machete you used in Vietnam to the jungles of Central America. This is the same high quality machete that our troops have come to depend on. It is made of a heavier design, weighing in at 21.4 oz., which is what makes the difference in the price of machetes. This 18" Machete is an amazing cutter. Ontario Knife uses 1095 carbon steel for this machete, which is great for retaining a good edge and blade strength. The blade on this machete is sharp out of the box and ready for our troops to use. You do not have to sharpen it first. The machete has a full-tang through the handle. The blade is coated with a zinc phosphate for excellent corrosion resistance. The handle is made of a shatterproof polymer and is riveted on. The handle has a lanyard hole.This machete includes a Olive Drab Military Style Heavy Duty Plastic Sheath.
