Only Two Words Matter: Safety & Comfort This is the popular Oregon Aero "BLU" seven pad upgrade/replacement kit. Although not yet issued by the military, these are being used by Marines and soldiers currently in Iraq and other dangerous places around the world . They provide comfort and safety beyond the standard helmet suspension. T is no reason to spend months or years in a place like Iraq while suffering with the uncomfortable standard helmet suspension. Get this kit for the comfort , and get it for the safety .
Every day the media reports casualties that are the result of roadside bombs or IEDs (improvised explosive devices). To me, that means thebiggest selling point for this kit is the enhanced safety --the company states that the pads make the helmet safer by reducing transmitted shock loads from the front and sides. But Marines who have been t and used the pads tell me that they love the pads because they are so comfortable : they are vastly cooler and more breatheable than the original suspension, and they don't ride so hard on the head . The helmet is also less likely to shift while worn, especially when additional gear is mounted, such as helmet-mounted night vision devices . Additionally, the pads are easy to clean , moisture and waterproof, self-wicking (to transport sweat away from the wearer's head), gas- and air-permeable (keeps water out, but allow circulation or cool air). The kit includes the following pads: (1) round crown pad, (4) oval pads, (2) trapezoidal pads. In addition to the pads, the kit includes installation instructions, self-adhesive hook fastener strips to attach the pads (the velcro attachment greatly facilitates cleaning the pads), and alcohol swabs to clean the inside surface of the helmet. This system is the must have piece of gear in IRAQ , but it is not issued by the military . This gear can only be obtained on the civilian market, and it retails for $100 . Please visit the manufacturer's website () for pricing, sizes and additional information. Thanks for looking! [Please note that the two of my images--the installed kit and the pads displayed out of the package--are stock photos from Oregon Aero's website. My kit is unopened and these images are included only to give buyers a better idea of what they are purchasing. Also note that the BLU kit does not include the helmet strap shown in the helmet.]
