Bjorn Wiinblad designed this sweet dish while at Rosenthal. It was from the Studio Linie division, and the pattern is Quatre Couleurs. Designed with four types of gold and unusual ornamentation, this dish displays an oriental man holding small peacocks - one on each hand. It is 3 5/8" tall and 5 1/4" wide. The back is stamped with the green Rosenthal mark, Germany, Quatre Couleurs, Wiinblad's script signature, the Gold Studio Linie mark and the number 1583. This is a true gem. Bjorn Wiinblad (9/20/1918 - 6/8/2006), was a Danish painter, designer and artist in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles, and graphics. His work has been shown world-wide and is in many national museums. Characteristics of Wiinblad's work include whimsical round-faced people, dressed in vaguely 19th century costume. They are often surrounded by natural elements: twining vines, floral wreaths and fantastical trees, and birds. Wiinblad was an important designer for the Rosenthal porcelain company.
