RARE Orig 1872 BRONZE MEDAL 1871 GREAT CHICAGO FIRE 1 of 500 MADE FROM BRONZE OF CHICAGO COURTHOUSE BELL This auction is for an original bronze medal struck in 1872 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The medal was designed by William Barber and was made using bronze from the bell of the Chicago Court House. Only 500 of these medal were made so they are quite rare. The medal has a diameter of 2” (51mm) and the obverse shows an angel flying above the ruins of Chicago. Text on the obverse reads CHICAGO OCT 8 9 1871 FORT DEARBORN CHICAGO 1812. The reverse shows a Phoenix. The overall condition is Excellent with very light wear and a tiny edge nick at about 10 o’clock position of the reverse.
