These farms are the most productive in the entire valley. As the water advanced steadily toward the top of the dikes, large forces of men worked night and day raising the embankments and strengthening the weak places. Sacks of sand were piled along the top in two rows, dirt being filled in between them, and in one place several hundred sacks of flour were used to stop a slight crevasse. Just before daylight Sunday morning, May 13th, the Indian Grave Levee, above Quincy, gave way, a solid section of the embankment thirty feet long being carried out...".Additional illustrated articles in this issue include: "WAR-TIME WOOING", "INDIAN SERVICE ON THE BORDER", and MORE!
