UNIQUE original drawing from elderly widow's estate (her late husband was the nephew of the woman who copied the Paris designs). As printed in Chicago Daily Herald in 1993, front page headline blurb "Fashion Forgery - In the 1930s and '40s, a woman copied Paris fashion designs and smuggled them stateside. Her nephew inherited the designs and a great family story...". Headline "COPYCAT ... Back in the 1930s and '40s Caroline Davis made her fortune by stealing Paris fashion designs and duplicating them back home... she made a nice living swiping Paris fashion designs so they could be made into affordable knockoffs... The sketches were hidden in magazines and smuggled out, right under the watchful eyes of the gendarmes... She hired 10 to 15 budding young artists who would accompany her to each showing of the latest from top designers. As each new outfit made its first appearance on the lithe body of a Parisian model strutting down the runway, one of the artists would run to the bathroom and quickly sketch it from memory...
