This item is being relisted because of a no-pay bidder. What I have up for auction today is a Model 1860 Cavalry Sword and Scabbard from the Civil War. The sword and scabbard are complete and in good condition. This sword was manufactured by Henry Boker of Solingen during the Civil War period and was reported to have a contract with the U.S. government for over 45,000 cavalry swords. The brass hand guard on this sword has a nice dark patina and is tight. The original leather grip and wire wrap are also in good condition. The blade is in good condition with minor spotting due to age. The sword has not been cleaned; however, some of the age spots could likely been removed with steel wool. The maker's name, Henry Boker, and Solingen is clearly seen on the ricasso. The ricasso also retains the original leather washer. T are a couple of small nicks on the cutting edge of the blade which were obviously done many years ago and likely occurred in battle. The blade length is 35 inches (34 7/8 inches to be exact.) and the width is 1 1/8 inches at the ricasso. The original scabbard has a natural patina color with some silver coloring bleeding through in some spots. The scabbard has both rings intact and has the original throat piece with the number 28 stamped on it. Please feel free to e-mail me if you should have any additional questions. Payment is due within ten days after the auction ends. I accept money order or cashier's checks, and PAY-PAL only to a verified address. A flat fee of $18 is charged for USPS Priority Mail within the lower 48 states. Insurance will be estimated at the end of the auction! The shipping for foreign sales is higher.
An E-Bayer indicated to me that the scabbard may not be original to the sword and may be to an 1906 Ames sword. This scabbard fits the sword perfectly, but I am not an expert on swords either. Bidders, if you have a doubt that this is the original scabbard, please feel free to retract your bid.
