Outstanding & original Japanese woodblock print book set (3 volumes complete), WESTERN SCIENCE, dated Meiji 3 = 1870. Each volume measures 6 X 9 inches (closed) and there are a total of 136 pages, 61 of which have fine Japanese woodblock prints illustrating Western science (physics, chemistry, optics, balloons, etc) which came into Japan at the beginning of the Meiji era. This was an important time in Japan as national policy changed with the Meiji Restoration to allow Western studies, in particular science, to flourish in Japan. Original covers & title slips, contents complete, fine impressions, generally fair to good shape for the age & GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC. NOTE: These volumes were too large for my scanner. The pages are UNTRIMMED & have FULL MARGINS. Be sure to add me to your favorites list & check out my other auctions for more interesting things from Japan. Buyer pays ACTUAL SHIPPING COSTS.
