You are bidding on a very colorful original "FIRST EDITION" Japanese woodblock print triptych "Fisherman and Cook" signed by the famous Meiji woodblock print master Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900), made in May Meiji 16, which is 1883. This is an original woodblock print triptych about 123 years old. This woodblock print is a part of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. The three panels are separate. This woodblock print triptych depicts a story of a woman cook and fishermen. The size of each panel of this triptych is 14 x 9 1/4 inches. The artist's signature with Toshidama seal, the chop marks of the publisher's name, address, and publication date, and the chop mark of "First Edition" are at the lower right corner of the left panel. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print. The triptych is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of original Japanese Washi paper. Except for some very minor ink smearing around the artist's chop mark due to the print's age, this original woodblock print triptych is in excellent condition. It is hard to find such a colorful original woodblock print triptych in the public nowadays and it is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
