You are bidding on a very colorful original Japanese woodblock print triptych "Military Inspection" signed by the famous Meiji woodblock print master Chikanobu Yoshu (1838-1912), made in March Meiji 23, which is 1890. This is an original woodblock print triptych about 116 years old. This woodblock print is a part of a large number of Asian art and Japanese woodblock print collections in my family. This woodblock print triptych depicts the Emperor Meiji inspecting his Imperial Army prior to the invasion of Korea. The three panels are connected together. The total size of this original woodblock print triptych is 28 1/2 inch x 14 1/2 inches. The artist's signature, the chop marks of the publisher's name, address, and publication date, and carver's seal are at the lower left corner of the left panel. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers on the print. This woodblock print is attached to an original Japanese Washi paper cardboard on the middle, left, and right of the top and bottom border edges to protect it from forming wormholes and tearing. Two borders of this triptych are intact. Except for a 1 mm x 2 mm wormhole above the print's title and some pin hole like wormholes at the upper left corner of the left panel; some very minor foxing in the borders due to the print's age, which does not affect the images, this woodblock print triptych is in excellent condition. It is hard to find such a special original Japanese woodblock print triptych of military practice scene signed by the Meiji woodblock print master Chikanobu in the public nowadays. This woodblock print triptych is definitely an incredible piece for collecting.
