Rare and original c1870 Japanese woodblock print by YOSHITOSHI depicting an event which happened in Nagasaki. In this scene a foreigner, having refused to pay for the services of a prostitute, is running out the door. In the process he has dropped his pocket watch, At top the full story is written explaining that the prostitute kept the watch since she never received payment. Her foreign customer, however, reported to the police that his watch was missing. When it was discovered that the prostitute had the watch she was arrested and the property was returned to the foreigner. Japanese had a deep distrust of the foreigners working and living in the treaty ports and it was graphic depictions of events like this that added fuel to the fire. Print measures 10 X 14 1/2 inches, good impressions and colors, unbacked, a few repairs but generally very good shape. A very rare and historic print by Yoshitoshi. GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC.
