Up for auction is an original US Civil War model 1850 foot officer's sword or saber/saber. The blade is not maker marked although t is what appears to be the letters J C along with an S in an oval. The blade is 32 inches long. The blade is straight and totally nick free. The original red felt blade washer is present. The blade is beautifully etched with U.S. as well as E. PLURIBUS UNUM. The blade etch is nice and strong. T is a little light rust on the blade as you'd expect to find on a sword of this age, but it is hardly noticeable and only mentioned for accuracies sake. The rayskin covered grip is in overall excellent condition and the brass wire wrap is also in great shape. The brass hilt assembly is nicely marked US and much of the gilt finish remains. T is a slight 3/16 inch crack in the brass guard but nothing serious. I haven't done a thing to this sword, it's just the way I got it. This sword is fresh to the market and has never been in a collection before and is just out of the woodwork. The scabbard is in very nice condition and compliments the sword well. The sheath is made from steel with brass hangers and drag. The scabbard finish is a nice chocolate brown patina, and you can see areas of the original blueing showing in areas. the scabbard is damage free.
