Acquired from an old collection from Washington D.C., an original late 19th century piece of Scottish Tartanware that is not often found, a three minute kitchen timer. Likely made to time an egg while cooking, this 2" diameter and 3 1/4" tall mauchline timer has a printed paper covering in a Prince Charlie tartan plaid with black finished accents. The fine glass holds a very fine sandstone colored sand. In very good clean sound condition, especially for a kitchen implement, with only a bit of play in the fit of the glass and a few tiny edge chips to the plaid end papers. Very similar to one shown on page 41 of the Tartanware book by Princess Ira Von Furstenberg. All in all, a very good piece of Victorian tartanware with an accurate timing purpose. P156.
