First, please note that this is a dark old photo under glass, one of the most difficult things to photograph. While we try to minimize glare, the photos with this auction will show light spots and reflections that not a part of this piece. Up in this auction is an antique large fox hunt engraving, from 1841. It has darkened with age over the years, but is in excellent condition. Hand painted. After R B Davis, engraved by Charles Hunt. Titled at the top and on the bottom it has the following written: "About eight men in a hundred ride up to the hounds, about twenty others are in a fair place; a brook comes to be encountered, which stops about one third of the "twenty." There are the funkers, who are afraid to gallop over rough ground, & the gallopers who will ride fast over any kind of ground, but turn from a big fence. There are the cunning ones, that make for a point, nearly turning their backs upon the line; and the macadamizers, or coasters, as they are now called in Leicestershire, again there are the "spring captains," as they are called, and the mustached gentlemen, who would go to hounds if they knew how. " - Vide Nimrod for the Sporting Oracle This is quite large behind wavy sheet glass, the frame is a dark wood with some scratches. It measures aprpox. 34" x 16" for the engraving, framed approx. 38 3/4" x 20 1/2". Estimated shipping weight, (packaged) is 12 lbs 8 oz in a 44 x 24 x 5 box.
