ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN SPECIAL ORDERS UNION ARMY 1864 13th US Army Corps -- Maj. Gen. N. J. T. Dana, commanding RARE!NO RESERVE! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Major General Napoleon Jackson Tecumseh Dana (1822-1905) ) ADS 4pp (counting cover) on two leaves folio, Headquarters 13th Army Corps, Cavallo Pass, TX, January 13th, 1864 Special Order No 8 written by Capt. Hugh G. Brown as General Dana's aide de camp, and signed by him on the General's behalf, ordering the occupation of Matagorda Island and Indianola, giving the Union control of the Texas Gulf Coast from Matagorda Bay south to the Mexican border. Highlights include: "Brig. Genl. T.E.G. Ransom, US Vols. will for the present assume command of the Post Delerows Point and Matagorda Island. He will make all useful regulations, reporting his orders to this Hd Qrs. as soon as issued, for approval." Orders that guards will be posted at all steamship landings, an ensuring that no one without proper authority is allowed to board any vessel. Every vessel will be boarded at the moment of her landing, and an accurate list of all passengers made, with notes of the reason for their arrival.
