Original Kono Barei Flower Prints- A lovely, original 1880s flower print from Kono's "One Hundred Flowers" series. A beautiful wood block with stunning colors and fine detail. These excellent Kono prints are terrific examples of floral woodblock prints from the late 19th century tradition. Originally released in a single album, Kono's flowers were illustrations of some of the favorite native species and exotic flora that were the rage in Japan in the late 19th century.

Original Meiji era woodblocks of these lovely, tranquil flowers are a wonderful area of collecting. They are a very affordable opportunity to add an original antique woodblock to any interior. The classic flowers make an excellent design element in a room and add a distinctly Japanese feeling. Condition- In excellent condition overall, as shown. No holes, tears, or damage to report. The prints are not backed. Margins as shown (see photo). As these were folio prints, they were folded vertically, now flattened. That's always the case with this series. Stored only, never framed or displayed. Very nice overall, in top notch condition for prints of this age. An excellent opportunity to collect or display.

This Collection - This print, and the other flowers in our auctions this evening are directly from a Japanese collection purchased in Kyoto last month. They were a treasured part of a family's woodblock print collection and were expertly stored. The colors are beautiful and intense as shown in our photos.
