This is an old 1887 scrapbook containing 1000's of news items from New England. This is a real treasure trove of lost and forgotten news, events, and people. Much of it deals with crime, but t are a lot of death notices, obituaries and even some marriages mixed in. Clearly this was someone's effort of historical preservation. Aside from some of the obituaries, it looks like everything is from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. 1887 Original 121 Year Old Scrapbook Incredible Wealth of New England History Mortality Information, Vital Statistics, Fasinating Lost Tales This is one of those items that is beyond description. T is just so much to digest. Real old fashioned New England happenings. T are old Civil War vets dying, shipwrecks, horrible accidents, unexplained mysterious crimes, scandals, destruction fires, historic buildings lost, Civil War GAR reunions, bombs, dynamite, death of a centenarian, robbers and thieves, murders and murder trails, suicides by hanging, executions, an ancient relic uncovered in Dedham, ghosts in Palmer, fatal train accidents, a "materializing medium", a Boston spiritualist, shootings, swindlers, P.T. Barnum's winter quarters burned, a coon hunt, bodies found, police raids, electric oddities, gambling dens, a 9 year old gets a crochet needle in his throat, vandals invade a Rhode Island cemetery, a mysterious ring, an old man murdered at Greenfield, a monstrous moose, an odd church in Lancaster, and on and on it goes. T are about 75 pages of this stuff, three columns per page. All these articles were clipped from 1887 newspapers and pasted in to an old ledger. Inside the front cover it says "Mrs. Ezrc Heavens 1217 Washington St Hoboken, NJ. The back of the book was used as a ledger in the 1920's. Its all a lot of fun reading this interesting, long forgotten stuff. T are hundreds and hundreds of events recorded usually in just a paragraph or two. This stuff hasn't seen the light of day in 120 years. Loads of geneology, the kind of information impossible to find anyw else.
