FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER (ex-lib), New York, dated March 19, 1896. COMPLETE in 16 pages, Folio (16" x 11 1/2"). Featured in this issue is an original 3" x 5" photo image of "THE TOWN OF FITZGERALD" accompanied by the 1 1/2 column-long article "A COLONY OF ARMY VETERANS" which reads, "The phenomenon of sudden city growth has been so frequent in the mining regions of the West that it has ceased to provoke special comment. But the spectacle of a city of over six thousand people amid the pine forests of southern Georgia, w six months ago t were only a score or so of people, may be classed as an event of unusual interest...On the fourth of last October the first human habitation was begun in Fitzgerald, as the new town is called. It was completed the same day, and its character may be imagined. It was a shanty or 'shack'...But Fitzgerald presents a very different appearance now. The colony has grown wonderfully.
