Original 1905 District Railway Miniature Map of London & Envrions - Early London Underground map prior to the unification of the lines under the 'Underground' brand. The District Railway still exists today as the District Line. Excellent condition: 29x44cm Prior to the unification of the various underground railway companies, each company produced their own map (notably the top 3: Metropolitan, Central London and District Railways). This map predates the unification by 2 years (see my 1908 listing of the first unified map). Most of the lines has become electrified by 1905 but there were still a few sections of line which were steam operated. It is remarkable to think that there was an electric underground railway under London whilst horses were still pulling carts above ground. This is a well documented map and is considered a significant milestone in the mapping of the London underground. Whilst still very complex comapred to the clear Beck diagram we are used to today, it was more usable and portable than other maps produced around this time. Available to anyone in the world.
