This is An Extremely Scarce High Relief US Mint Army Medal Originally Awarded in Gold to Major General Winfield Scott for the Battles of Chippewa July 6, 1814 & Niagara July 25, 1814. Neuzil 63. Sculpted by Moritz Furst. It is 65mm (Just Over 2 1/2 Inches) in Diameter and Weighs 156 Grams. The Gold Medal was Produced in 1824. This Example is an Original Bronzed Copper Strike and is Extremely Rare and is Choice Red. According to RW Julian in "Medals of the US Mint The First Century 1792-1892" Mintage of this Original Medal Varies Somew Between 80-85. The Original Bronzed Copper Strikes Were Produced in 1861. Population Reports on Surviving Original Bronzed Copper Strikes from 1861 Vary from 25-35 Specimens, Meaning this Piece Falls into the R5-6 Range.
