This is an ORIGINAL helmet, not a fake, fraud or reproduction. But please read on for more information. This helmet was found about 5 years ago at the famed "Smith and Edwards" yard in Utah. Several other 29 th helmets were found t by a friend of mine, all helmets were found in the same manner. The shell was found with out chinstraps. It had a post war light green over paint. Upon bringing it home, I noticed that the paint was cracking in a perfect circle on the front of the helmet. I started chipping away the paint to revel a 29 th decal. The decal was badly damaged, but further inspection reveled that it was placed over an earlier painted 29 th insignia. I chipped away the decal down to the original insignia. Remnants of the decal can still be seen. Apparently, some of the 29 th helmets made it back to the states after the war, were repainted, and used in post war service. This shell has around 5 coats of paint and I only removed the paint on the front portion of the helmet. The remaining coats of paint are still present on the rest of the helmet. I salvaged a pair of chinstrap from another damaged shell, and match the condition of this helmet. I also selected a liner that matched the condition of the shell and used it for display purposes.
