Superb original 34 Star Civil War Flag with Provenance and Name written on seam. This is just a real nice original 34 star Civil War flag with a copy of the newspaper article picturing the flag and the two boys who found it approximate 35 yrs ago in Ohio. This was just recently acquired from the person who found it as a boy and who is named and picture in newspaper article when he found it. Flag has written on the seam "Owens". The boys when they found flag wrote the Smithsonian institute and looked in the encyclopedia and found that t was an Owens who was welsh born and owned a number of sewing factories in the mid 1800 s. US [mfg or owner]. I photographed article and hope it is readable [Neat article] The condition of the flag is real nice , has a few minor small holes from age , bunting material. The 34 stars are sewn on each side of canton. Early civil war flag [admission of Kansas to US] 1860 thru 1863. The colors are still very vibrant. Flag has a few old stains on red and white stripes. Flag is nice size for display approx 4ft 3in x 6ft 9 in. Flag was definitely flew on a wood pole, possible hand carried. Has 4 slits and sewn reinforced grommets on apparent cotton canvas type white seam. Also has additional 5 small holes on seam with rust color surrounding them [probable old nail or tack holes].
