Alan Winslow of the 94th "Hat in the Ring" Aero Squadron with the wreckage of his first aerial victory, a German plane from Jasta 64w, April 14, 1918, France.Photo from Lt. Goerge Holmes of Philadelphia, PA. Holmes was originally in Battery C of an Artillery Regiment in the 81st Division. When he arrived in France he was sent to Observer School in Tours, France, and then reassigned as an aerial observer to Flight 19 of the 258th Aero Squadron. With his pilot Benny, he flew in a Salmson A2A over the Western Front on recon missions and located targets for artillery.
